Martin, the Quizmaster "Good evening everybody and welcome to the Crystal Palace Tavern Pub Quiz ...."
Every Wednesday evening at the CPT we have a charity quiz, starting at 9:15 pm. There are three rounds of 20 questions: the first being Pot Luck (or General Knowledge) and the other two from a range of subjects such as Art, Books, TV, Films, Geography, Famous People, etc.
We charge each player £1.50 to enter which gives entry to the quiz, a raffle for a bottle of wine, and the jackpot question draw. One pound of this goes to charity, usually to St Christopher's Hospice, and 50 pence goes into the jackpot.
On arriving, you will be given a set of three answer sheets, a team name ticket and a joker ticket. Fill in your chosen team name, using as much inventiveness as you like, and hand in the ticket to the quizmaster so that your name can go on the scoresheet.
The "Joker" must be handed in before the round you want to play it on: it doubles your points for that round. So choose your best subject and hand in the Joker with your team name and the name of the round you think you are going to do best at.
Then Martin, the quizmaster, can start.

The maximum score for each of the three rounds is 20 points. With the score for one of these rounds doubled by playing the joker, that means a possible total score for the quiz of up to 80 points. Typically we find that the highest scoring team might just top 70 points.
Every week there is the "Jackpot question". One ticket is drawn and the winner is invited to answer that week's jackpot question. Alone and unaided. If he/she gets it right they win the money in the pot. If they don't, there is a "rollover" and the money gets added to the following week's pot. Occasionally it has been known to roll over for 5 or 6 weeks in a row, and the pot has reached £200 before somebody finally won it!
